Founded in 1976 by special effects pioneer Petro Vlahos and makers of the patented standalone color-difference extraction software. Originally developed as an analog video keying technology it initially was used extensively at Francis Ford Coppola's Zoetrope Studios in the early 1980s. Ultimatte is available as a plug-in for just about every major compositing software package including Adobe After Effects, Avid Media Composer, Chyron Concerto, and Liberty, Discreet Logic, and Softimage D|S environments. Ultimatte Corp. also makes the Mac OS-dedicated masking software KnockOut. They are located in Chatsworth, California.
