  • The Ministere de la Culture, managed by Jack Lang, gave some funds to start new CG technologies in France. Sogitec is a big industrial group that acts mainly in the military field as part of Dassault Electronic. The Sogitec CG department was created in 1982-83 by Xavier Nicolas, Daniel Poiroux, and Alain Grach to try to create images using a customized version of a flight-simulator software.

  • Beginning in 1984, Sogitec had became a subsidiary of Dassault Aviation in France and is now involved in simulation but not in CGI directly. In 1989 Xavier and Sogitec's animation component merged with Thompson Digital Images ( TDI ) to form a new company called ExMachina.
