Pioneering French computer scientist. It is among other things invented the technique of shading image synthesis that bears his name, Gouraud shading . Son and nephew of the general, nephew of General Henri Gouraud , he studied at the military academy Military La Flèche (where he met Patrick Baudelaire) then became an engineer from the Ecole Centrale de Paris (promo 1967). He married Sylvie, then from 1968 to 1971, the IRIA assigns a scholarship and the University of Utah appointed Research Assistant , which allows him to prepare a Ph.D. at the University Utah, with Ivan Sutherland . He leads an active retirement until 2008 while working with Exalead (headed by François Bourdoucle ) and several European projects.

Returning to France to do his military service, he joined TECSI, a service company where we met at the time of young Ph.D. in computer science as Jean-Yves Leclerc and Vincent Tixier. He participated briefly with Patrick Baudelaire to the adventure of World Computer Center directed by Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber , and the company created in 1983 with Tangram Baudelaire, Michel Gangnet and Bernard Scherrer. The company was bought in 1986 by Digital Equipment Corporation including director of research, Robert Taylor, who was at the University of Utah in 1969, well known Gouraud and Baudelaire. Then head for the last few years the research center in France Digital (PRL). When Digital was acquired by Compaq , Henri Gouraud leaving the company to new adventures. These led him to take the post of deputy director of European research laboratory of Sun Microsystems in Grenoble. Unfortunately, the financial difficulties of the Sun lead to close the lab in 2004.
