  • This 2D compositing software used an "interactive data-flow diagram paradigm" (a fancy way of saying an intuitive interface with dependency structure). Written in conjunction with Side Effects Software and RFX, Chalice was available for UNIX and NT from Silicon Grail in 1995. Film resolution tracking color correction and extractions can be controlled through mathematical expressions. It was optimized for the DEC Alpha and cost about $3,000 in 1998. Chalice (and its sister program RAYZ) was purchased by Apple in June 2002 and later discontinued.
